9 new Supernovas sections in Africa!

We started the year 2023 with an ambitious mission - to open a dozen new Supernovas sections in three African countries: Egypt, Kenya, and Ghana. Here’s how it went

After completing an intense information campaign to reach as many qualified candidates from all walks of life as possible, we opened an online application on our website. All interested candidates had to fill out a questionnaire with information about themselves and their experience in football and leave a motivation letter.

The response was amazing! We received more than 800 applications from each country, with Kenya in impressive lead with over 1,600 enthusiasts wishing to become a Supernovas football coach.

While the applicants were mostly male, there was impressive activity on the women’s part as well!

More than a few dozen applied, and some of them put up a good fight right up to the final stages! We now have our very first female coach for Supernovas. She’ll run a section in Kenya!

Hopefully, we’ll see more women among Supernovas coaches in the future!

Philip Awuku Forson is a coach from Akim Oda, who's already amassed over 15 years of coaching experience: he started organizing his first training sessions when he was just 12 years old (Class 6). Philip uses football to combat child labor and child abuse at the local level and plans to use the Supernovas program to improve his reach.

James Kofi Otoo is a teacher and a coach from Elmina, who's been in the football industry almost all his life: he started playing at 10 and has been a coach for the past 10 years. James used to be a professional player - he played in Ghana Division II League.

Meet Supernovas new trainers in Kenya

Festus Ochieng is a coach from Rusinga Island Festus was trained as a coach via academy sponsorship. He's been training children for years, and some of them have already found success on the football field, with one of them becoming a pro goalie.

Samuel Amos Amukokha is a coach from Kitale. He’s worked as a football coach since graduating. He is well-known by the locals, and actively involved in community development efforts.

Brian Ochieng is a former professional player from Mombasa. A midfielder, he played for Kenyan Premier League until 2017. He’s been involved in community work for the last 4 years and started a local community team, trying to integrate sports with education and advocate for positive life choices among kids.

Meet Supernovas new trainers in Egypt

Wael Samy Ramzy Zaki is a psychologist from Assiut whom locals know well. He has worked with kids for many years, including multiple UNICEF and USAID projects.

Raed Mohamed Rasd is a handball and football coach from Tanta. He's been training kids for 14 years. Raed is a licensed member of both the Egyptian and African Federations of handball coaches.

Mahmoud Omran Darwish is a former professional footballer and children's physical educator from Elminya City. He started playing football at 12 and has played for 5 clubs in his city.

Mohamed Elsayed Kassem is an educator from Kafr El-Sheikh who's trained kids in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. He was an amateur player at college and has team management experience.
